Type 1 survey
To record the presence, possible nature and location of asbestos and to include a visual assessment of condition. No samples are taken and so the possible presence of asbestos has to be assumed unless there is strong evidence to the contrary.
Type 2 survey
As type 1, but to include sampling and analysis via a UKAS accredited independent laboratory to determine the type of asbestos, or eliminate the possibility of asbestos being present.
Type 3 survey
To describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMS in the building. This will involve intrusive destructive inspection. Samples will be taken of any suspect material to determine whether asbestos is present or not.
